Insight Serving Catholic Schools in Canada

In August, the Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education and Aquinas College in Nashville released Insight, the first Social and Emotional Learning professional development program designed for PK-12 Catholic school educators.  Since that time, Insight has been accessed by Catholic school and diocesan administrators, educators, parents, and school counselors in 37 states and six countries.

Catholic educators in the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan are utilizing this free resource. An October 12, 2022 article in The B.C. Catholic shared how Insight is being used to respond to student mental health and well-being needs in the Catholic Independent Schools of Vancouver Archdiocese (CISVA).

Insight is a FREE program consists of 10 brief Video Lessons, a Discussion Guide, and a Prayer Companion featuring sacred art and scripture. Insight offers a fresh look at Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through the lens of the Catholic Christian vision of the human person, specifically as taught by Saint Thomas Aquinas, and touches on key areas including:

  • human nature and dignity,
  • the emotions and their role in Christian flourishing,
  • the rational powers of intellect and will,
  • obstacles to integration of both the emotions and the intellect in human acts,
  • building relationships,
  • and the virtues.
