On May 13, 2022, Sagra Alvarado-Hardy, Ed.M. joined the ITCE team as its first Program Manager. In her capacity as Program Manager, Sagra will oversee the development and execution of the initiatives and programs offered by the Institute, specifically those related to professional development and faith formation for teachers and leaders. “It is such a joy for me to welcome Sagra to our team. She brings to this role many gifts including deep faith, passion for the mission of the Church, international experience, excellent education, and many personal talents,” said Sister Mary Agnes Greiffendorf, O.P., Director of the ITCE.
Sagra Alvarado-Hardy is a Catholic newlywed wife and young professional in Washington, D.C. Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Sagra grew up in a Hispanic household and was raised in a traditional Catholic environment that led to her deep love of Catholicism. Through many providential encounters, she learned from the example of clergy and members of the religious life who helped shape her faith including the Dominican Sisters of Saint Cecilia, the Dominican friars, the Oratorians of Saint Philip Neri, and missionary Franciscans. She has special devotions to several saints such as Saint Joseph, Saint Catherine of Siena, Saint Bernadette, Saint Padre Pio, Saint John Paul the Great, and Saint Gianna Beretta Molla.
Sagra graduated from the College of William & Mary in 2015 with her B.A. in History and minor in Middle Eastern Studies. After graduation, she was awarded a Fulbright grant to teach English in Sicily. Following Fulbright, Sagra graduated with her Ed.M. in International Education Policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 2018. After earning this degree, Sagra spent three years working in program management for a USG-funded exchange program that allows for students from the Middle East and North Africa region to spend an academic year with an American host family in the United States.
Sagra is an active volunteer at her parish St. Thomas Apostle in Woodley Park where she serves as a bible study leader and acted as the moderator for a Q&A series in October 2021 on female leadership in the Catholic Church. For this series, she interviewed notable Catholic female leaders including EWTN news anchor, Montse Alvarado. Sagra attended the 2021 GIVEN Forum and following the forum, she served as the moderator for 2021–2022 GIVEN Academy Series. An admirer of art history and photography, Sagra led a study for Lent 2021 with Behold Visio Divina, a ministry dedicated to prayer with sacred art through the publication of specialized studies. Sagra has written for several publications including Catholic Women in Business, The Young Catholic Woman, Verily Magazine, and the print magazine, VIGIL, for which she interviewed Catholic authors Nicole Caruso and Mary Lenaburg.
Throughout her personal, educational, and professional experiences, Sagra strives to serve God in all her works and deeds. As the Program Manager for the Institute for the Transformation of Catholic Education, Sagra is eager to offer her career to the Church and collaborate with fellow Catholic professionals who yearn for a renewed era of Catholic education in the United States.
